I spent a Saturday morning trying to figure this out. The summary is that I don’t know yet how to fix this.

I had a OpenVPN configuration for my phone and computer. The phone just worked while I could not get the computer to connect to save my life.

Through various gyrations I came to the conclusion StarBucks or some other agent was filtering out packets from the computer.

Later that evening, I went to a friend’s house and the computer just connected up, so I am thinking this is definitely something with the WiFi at StarBucks. I found these webpages:

The implication is that it has to do with the DNS, but I was using hard coded IP addresses. I need to investigate some more.
